Marly & Maurice’s wedding celebration carried the most beautiful vision with the incredible help of the talented ladies Jillian & Ashley at Coastyle Events and the wildflower-soft “Wow’s” of Hartworks Floral Design.

We kept the cake as CRISP & CLEAN in design as Maurice’s beautiful dress whites uniform and added textures of gold dust crystal sugar and more of those soft, lovely flowers.  Thanks to our floral genius Lauren Rennie (@Wedgal) for her use of these flowers to embellish this perfectly neat 4-tiered wedding cake created by our baking & decor teams at Sweet Cheeks Baking Co.

The Cats Meow! 9 Years, 9 Lives + Some Crazy Cat Ladies

Wednesday, March 30th, 2016

Sweet Cheeks’ Birthday parties are well known for FUN, YUM, and a little bit o’ CRAZY!  This year, as we celebrated 9 years in business, we chose the “9 Lives” theme of…yup, CATS.

About 350 people showed up – some in ears & tails, others with their own stuffed animals, most just to have a great time & taste AMAZING DESSERTS in cat-inspired style!  From kitty litter cakes to Grumpy Cat Cake, cakes to make the Cake Boss sigh… Gluten Free Desserts to funny edible cat hair balls (coconut, that is)…people were stealing the to-go boxes once again!!!

Behind the Scenes Look into Our Bakery

Making Caramel

Donna, always stirring the pot…

Cake is Tough Work… Team Cheeks is here!

All those home bakers out there who think baking & decorating cakes is (pardon the pun) “a piece of cake” have it wrong.  Serious cake decorating is tough work and requires many hours of training, patience, practice, and attention to detail!

In the Sweet Cheeks Baking Co. kitchen, while our baking team creates amazing cakes to EAT, the decorating team enhances them in STYLE and CREATIVITY.  Here’s a little “behind the scenes of the bakery” to show how focused and exact our world is:

It’s all in the DETAILS… and it takes a crew of dedicated people to create the perfect polished cake, dessert buffet, or goody bag!  Whew!  Now that’s what I call TEAM CHEEKS AT WORK!

(Is it time for a celebratory cocktail???)

Wednesday, October 14th, 2015

Those crafty folks at Craft Films put together this terrific wedding video for Molly & Brendan at Hotel Del Coronado, and we were so psyched to see both of our cakes (the super elegant wedding cake AND the DEEP DISH PIZZA CAKE and BEER GLASS CAKE for Brendan…too much fun!)

Beautifully Coordinated by Paige Jensen of Bliss Events, the evening flowed with seamless grace & fabulous fun!

Clients who write us exceptional “Thank-You” notes truly make our jobs worth every moment of stress, time, labor, and attention to detail.  Kelly & William, married at the urban-cool setting of The Bristol Hotel in downtown San Diego, just sent us the most wonderful letter, just one week shy of their 1-year anniversary.  We don’t normally share self-congratulatory posts like this, but she really did make a rainy day shine today, with her note and with these gorgeous images of their love together!  Thank you, Kelly for this letter!

“Hi Sweetcheeks!

It’s been almost a year now since our wedding and I never actually reached out to THANK YOU for your unbelievable cake!! It was STUNNING, it was more than I dreamed of, and it truly – besides the whole marriage part – was my absolute favorite piece of the whole wedding weekend. (So much so that I had several pieces of it, haha) Our photographer has done 400+ weddings and he told us that your cake was without a doubt in the top 5 wedding cakes he has ever photographed. It was PERFECTION. (So perfect, in fact, that father of the bride thought it was an exquisite present throughout the whole event instead of the cake, and a group of friends was so convinced that it was fake – because the edges were too perfect – that one of them got the courage to swipe the back of it to see, then turned in a panic to the rest of them with her frosting finger! They made a pact not to tell us until later 🙂 )

Your cake was also so incredibly yummy that we decided to eat the top tier so we could enjoy it without freezer burn! So I’m wondering if we can order the top again for our 1 year anniversary coming up??

The date is January 19th. It was the Red Velvet with cream cheese filling. We live in Madison, WI so it will include shipping. I hope I’m giving you enough notice? Let me know if this is doable!

And THANK YOU SO MUCH again – I truly can’t thank you enough for how you made our day,

Kelly Boone”

Kelly ordered her cake from her home in Madison, WI, so it was all up to us to make sure we captured her perfect design, color, & flavor – sight unseen!  (gulp)  Our Sweet Cheeks Baking team knocked it out of the park by baking super-moist Red Velvet Cake and layering all tiers with our Silky Cream Cheese Filling and Italian Butter Cream Icing with crisp corner edging.  Sooooo yummy!

A Food Network Birthday Party!

Wednesday, December 31st, 2014

Happy Birthday, Gale Gand, from Sweet Cheeks Baking Co!

One of FOOD Network’s finest pastry chefs and James Beard Award Winning Chef celebrated her birthday during this year’s outstanding San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival – specifically during the first annual ONE WORLD BEEF – “Celebrate the Chef” Event that the festival showcased. The party lasted all day, located at the Del Mar Racetrack, a fun setting for both festival goers and Birthday Girls!

Del Mar Racetrack on a stellar San Diego day!

Top chefs showed off their delicious beef recipes, pairing it with anything from bacon to marmalade, habanero to Uni (sea urchin, my favorite little delicacy).  Our own Top Chefs from the Sweet Cheeks Baking Kitchen added in Gale’s birthday cake to WOW the masses of taste-frenzied Foodies.  Um, wait a second… Are we talking Wagyu beef AND Sweet Cheeks cake in one setting??? “YES, PLEASE!”

Sweet Cheeks Baking Co. was asked to create a “simple” Day At The Races-inspired cake for Gale to cut. We enjoyed every moment of the design, execution, and even delivery! Our fabulous Michael Banag was on site to share with her and capture a minute of laughs.

Gale’s surprise & excitement about her cake made our day!!!!

Tickled – cute!

Sweet Cheeks Pastry Chef Michael enjoying a quick moment of fun with Celebrity Chef Gale Gand!

Given the Wine Festival setting and the unique client, we selected our Vanilla Bean Sour Cream Cake, soaked it with Gewurztraminer Wine, and filled it with both Slow-Cooked Fudge and Salted Caramel Butter Cream, frosted in Classic Italian Butter Cream…holy deliciousness!!!

You can learn more about Gale, her classes, and her wonderful recipes at her website: (http://www.galegand.com/)

Look for tickets to next year’s festival and check out what Celebrity Chefs will join in the WOW Factor!
