Ahhh, Vida, the very essence of her name is LIFE!

The beautiful baby girl of our good friends Fabiano & Andrea Silva celebrated her first birthday in grand style.  Friends from all over San Diego and Brazil attended to share in her special day.

We love so many of these people, many of them known from our Little Italy restaurants of Buon Appetito and Sogno DiVino (Elaine’s alma mater as opening manager years ago).  Fabiano is one of our personal favorites for so many years, we had to create a festive, fun, Disney-themed, and PINK cake for the lovely baby Vida.

What a great help and friend you have been to all of us at Sweet Cheeks Baking Co.!  We appreciate your time, your assistance, your fun, your work ethic, and your terrific smile.  (And the delivery guys will all agree that she ROCKS the Sweet Cheeks yoga pants!)

Kimberly played in the kitchen with us over the past couple of months and is just a gem.  Her career path carries her further into the wedding industry, where she will no doubt offer great expertise to bridal couples in their quest of The Big Day.  She currently works as an event coordinator at Red Letter Days with the every-lovely ladies Rebecca Gaffney & Mia Sailing and shows a brilliant future in educating clients on cake selection, eating, and enjoyment…among many other things!

We look forward to working with you on lots of future events, Kim!

Victoria surely surprised her new groom Gavin at their wedding with their now famous SPAM cake! What a riot they are! We were so thrilled to make this cake for them that we dove into it with abandon and gave them a screaming deal. So many people have seen our initial post with the photos but thought it was just photos of SPAM cans, so we decided we needed to blog it briefly with the real shots we now have of this beautiful couple and their (2) cakes from our talented friends at TRUE Photography! Thanks to Gavin for using his sword to cut the Vanilla Sour Cream Cake with Slow-Cooked Chocolate Fudge, he made it all too much fun.

We received our wedding photographs and I just wanted to send a few your way! Gavin was so surprised with his Spam Cake and let me tell you, it is REALLY hard to surprise a Marine haha
Everyone loved it and it was one of the highlights of our wedding 🙂 Well it was probably THE highlight of the wedding, but I would like to think my walk down the aisle was haha

San Diego Wedding Cake Reviews that we LOVE

At Sweet Cheeks Baking Co. we love grooms who get involved and so rarely find one like Uly. In addition to helping his gorgeous bride to design most of the reception setting, he sent us one of the most lovely, to the point, and gracious notes of thanks from a groom that we’ve ever had. While we get wonderful notes all the time from happy couples, we have never before posted them to our site…rather, they grace the hall bulletin board of our bake shop.

Today, an exception, I am including this nice note from the newly married Ulysses and Ala, truly one of the nicest couples we’ve met in a long time! They were married recently at the Estancia La Jolla – always a happy place for weddings – and were guided along by Alexandra Roselee Hatcher as coordinator. Aqua Photography provided their amazing shooting skills…
Their design was based on a beautiful invitation designed for them by Pink Star Designs the manazanita trees and bird houses that filled the ballroom…amazing floral branches with cascading crystals designed by Patrick Higgins of Artistic Florals & Plants!

Sculpted Cakes are such a wacky way to express oneself and such a killer SURPRISE as a special gift that we appreciate being given the opportunity to make so many for our clients. Sometimes even we forget which one in the photo is the cake and which is the original item…!

These days the word “SPAM” connotes the evil empire of useless drivel over the web world…except at Sweet Cheeks Baking Co.
We LOVE Spam and so do some of our super fun couples! Given our military influence and San Diego’s proximity to Hawaii, there’s no wonder why there is such a fascination with this pressed-pork phenom.

We made this chocolate Spam cake for a special groom last weekend at The Omni Hotel.
All completely edible!

Ahh, Estancia La Jolla, a true gem within the jewel that is La Jolla!  Couples who hold their receptions here and at sister property of L’Auberge Del Mar just walk away HAPPY…and that is a blessing to all involved.  They must be doing something right – in addition to choosing great vendors! It all starts with a great Wedding Coordinator, and they selected beautifully with the lovely Liz Beck of Liz Beck Events. Hand-selected vendors like the wonderful Reverand Christopher Tuttle performed the ceremony to start the warm, loving atmosphere.

We loved Sarah & Scott and so did all of the people working for them!
Our cupcake team of Krista and Katrina even made some special Gluten-Free Cupcakes for her best friends with gluten intolerance, and Sarah was just thrilled that she could offer that special thoughtfulness to their guests.
What a fabulously fun, appreciative, and happy couple. Such a blessing to be involved in such loving moments.
“Scott’s favorite part of the wedding,” according to Sarah, was his Detroit Redwings Cake! Blackout chocolate cake filled with white chocolate mousse and Belgian chocolate whipped cream…the tricky part was creating this cake WITHOUT FONDANT…! GO Kristin, GO! Well done, lots of carving involved.

San Diego Wedding Cakes LOVE Enticing Tables!

Here they are, new looks for a San Diego Wedding…What a fun way to display cupcakes!
We love working with Enticing Tables, one of our best and most creative local San Diego companies who make all of us look great with their amazing displays. Displays for cupcakes, cakes, flowers, and more, Enticing Tables forges incredibly strong and beautiful pieces for use at any special event.

Valerie & Joe, two of the nicest people in business, offer a background of fascinating professional skill and wit.  Read on about their totally cool start of this terrific local business!

Nine months into a dating relationship is a risky time to start a business, but that’s exactly how it happened at Enticing Tables. Launched in December, 2009, Enticing Tables is a collaboration of partners, Valerie McCartney and Joe McKinney. While the two were watching a wedding show on TV, Valerie noticed the extremely dated and unattractive candelabras on display at the otherwise chic wedding. Surprised that those same candelabras were used at her sisters’ 1970’s-era weddings, she suggested to Joe that somebody needed to come up with something modern. She quickly sketched a design on a napkin and the design ultimately became Enticing Tables’ first prototype. A little over a year later, the Enticing Tables portfolio includes cupcake trees, cake stands, chandeliers, chuppahs, floral stands and other one-of-a-kind metal décor specifically tailored for wedding and party rentals.

With a background in marketing and franchise development, Valerie has held senior level positions at PepsiCo, Checkers/Rally’s, El Pollo Loco and Johnny Rockets. The skills acquired there prove useful on a daily basis as she continues to build the Enticing Tables portfolio and brand name. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations and client service, Valerie creates most of the company’s signature designs.

Having a 25-year career as an aerospace welder and facing the long, slow decline of the NASA space program, Joe was looking for a way to continue to use his skills. His inherent attention to detail and ability to work with a variety of metals make him a perfect fit for the specialized construction and precision welding needed at Enticing Tables.

As Enticing Tables has continued to grow and expand, so has the couple’s relationship. Planning has just started for a fall, 2012 wedding…..and you can bet the candelabras will be stunning!

Amazing Race Winners Meghan & Cheyne!

People Magazine and many other sites have been celebrating the nuptials, including cool mentions of us at Sweet Cheeks Bakery (more correctly listed as Sweet Cheeks Baking Co.).

Congratulations, to the newly married Meghan & Cheyne Whitney!
We have known Cheyne for years, since his former days of selling tee shirt printing to us when we were all first starting. He is such a doll, truly on of the nicest, surfer-cute Cali boys ever. He deserves a fabulous and strong woman like Meghan, and they represent the status of “winners” beautifully.

They selected the Hard Rock Hotel’s Legends Ballroom to celebrate the Big Day Reception on May 7, 2011, and Sweet Cheeks Baking Co. was more than thrilled to feed their party delicious cake and cupcakes. For more details of their wedding.

We know the party must’ve gotten started with Tim Altbaum Production at the DJ helm! Especially with the personalized dance floor built by Concepts Event Design. Jennifer Malloy from Amore’ Events was in the control booth as Coordinator for the event, and her team ran everything smoothly, as expected. Minimalistic-cool centerpieces were created by Blush Botanicals.
We cannot wait to see Aaron’s photos from True Photography – now those will be amazing…
